ENGINEERING
THE INVISIBLE
Konstantin Ryabukha - Independent BLE Consultant
I help companies design, build, and ship the software powering BLE devices - from embedded software for Nordic SoCs and BLE protocols to native iOS and Android applications, cloud integrations, and production deployment.
I also help hardware companies educate and support developers through technical content, reference applications, and SDK development.

Typical challenges I address
Whether building from scratch or fixing an existing product, I solve the technical challenges and edge cases that stall connected hardware launches.
Unreliable connections & fragile device lifecycle
Unexplained disconnects, unreliable pairing, failed reconnections, inconsistent connection states, and edge cases that only appear once the product reaches real users.
Data throughput & real-time streaming bottlenecks
Sensor streams and bulk transfers stalling, dropping data, or suffering excessive latency because of inefficient GATT design, packet framing, buffering, or connection configuration.
Poor battery life & inefficient power management
Connected devices draining batteries in days instead of months because BLE parameters, radio activity, sensor scheduling, connection behaviour, and system sleep modes aren't optimised as a complete system.
Cross-platform BLE inconsistencies
BLE features behaving differently across iOS and Android due to different APIs, permission models, background execution rules, lifecycle constraints, and Android vendor-specific behaviour.
OTA / DFU firmware update failures
Firmware updates failing mid-transfer, leaving devices difficult to recover, lacking robust update strategies, or creating a frustrating process that users abandon.
Fragile BLE protocols & poor system architecture
Firmware and mobile applications evolving independently around unclear communication protocols, making new features difficult to add without breaking compatibility with existing devices and apps.

My engineering process
Discovery & technical assessment
Understand the product, requirements, existing code, hardware, constraints, and risks.
System architecture
Design the system as a connected whole rather than as independent firmware, mobile, and backend projects.
Protocol & GATT design
Define reliable, extensible communication between devices and applications, including GATT structure, payload formats, state management, and protocol evolution.
Parallel development
Firmware, mobile applications, and backend services evolve together, not one after another.
Continuous testing & refinement
Test the complete system continuously under real conditions, identify problems early, and refine each layer based on measured results.
Production deployment & launch
Take the finished system from development to production, preparing firmware, mobile applications, backend infrastructure, and release processes for launch.
Handoff or long-term partnership
Complete the engagement with a clean handover and full documentation, or continue working together to maintain, evolve, and improve the product.
What you can expect
Full-stack ownership
(no finger-pointing)
One point of contact and clear technical accountability across firmware, BLE, mobile applications, and cloud integration.
20+ years of engineering experience
Including more than a decade specialising in Bluetooth® Low Energy and connected products.
Direct communication
No non-technical account managers, no game of telephone, and no fluff. You communicate directly with the engineer responsible for the work.
Attention to detail & difficult problem-solving
Connected products often fail at the edges. I focus on overlooked details, complex edge cases, and root causes behind problems.
Focused on your product, not just the ticket
I take the time to understand the product, its constraints, and the reasons behind the requirements, not just implement a list of tickets in isolation.
Built for long-term maintainability
Clean architecture, understandable code, and documentation designed to make the product maintainable and easier to evolve long after the initial release.
Transparent progress & no surprises
Regular progress updates, early communication about risks, and clear visibility into what is happening, what comes next, and where decisions are needed.
No vendor lock-in
You retain your source code, documentation, and technical knowledge. The goal is to leave you with a system your team can continue to own and evolve.
Don’t just take my word for it
“Konstantin will serve you well.”
Konstantin is a talented software and firmware engineer. He happily takes on challenging assignments and comes up with clever solutions. He is very talented at designing the interface for hardware/software devices, especially ones utilizing Bluetooth.
Konstantin works well in both native Android and iOS development. This is becoming an increasingly rare skill.
The products he has developed for Senaptec have worked from the start and remained a long-lasting part of our solution.
“Seems there is nothing impossible for Konstantin.”
Konstantin developed a Bluetooth IoT solution for me.
It was a challenging project, involving embedded, mobile App, and cloud development - which require very different engineering skill sets.
The solution Konstantin developed was high-quality, it performed as per the PRD. And he developed it on the required schedule.
“Konstantin built for us a very strong foundation.”
We've hired Konstantin to develop MVPs of our products.
His professionalism and commitment were top-notch!
“His standards are very high!”
We've been working with Konstantin for a few years in many web-related projects.
His attitude to development process and delivery is very solid, code he writes is free from bugs, and if any bugs appear - he solves them immediately. He clearly understands business value and importance of robust solutions for our clients.
Highly recommended!!!
